Inspiration: Train / Railroad

This set took inspiration from Santa Fe Railroads. Modern furniture that takes the aspects of a railroad and forms an abstract display as a dining set.

With a palette of wood and steel to reference the original materials of a train track, void strips are cut  to reflect roadways intersecting train tracks. The range of wood colors resemble the various hues of the different train cars. Lastly, as trains were made to connect distant places, the zigzag pattern of the steel pays homage to this by connecting the separate materials of wood and metal.

Custom bookshelf & artwork designed & fabricated for client who requested minimalist design with pops of color. Artwork is based on abstract take on Eucalyptus tree trunk (client’s favorite tree).

Materials include hot-rolled steel and various exotic, naturally colored wood types.

Custom design & fabricated bike rack for Desert Foothills Animal Rescue. Design resembles old slinky-dog toy, but utilizes dog head of animal rescue’s logo.

A project through Aranda/Lasch for the Venice Biennale. The design is by Aranda/Lasch, which is a design firm with offices in New York and Arizona. Another Look was involved early in the process with initial design concepts and the fabrication of the pieces.

The modern style pieces take their inspiration from mined crystalline structures, creating a form that is just as much sculpture as it is furniture.

After the Venice Biennale, the pieces were showcased at several shows around the world, including an interactive show at Design Miami in collaboration with Fendi, who designed purses and throws inspired by the primitives pieces.

A project through Aranda/Lasch for several art shows and galleries, including Design Miami. The design is by Aranda/Lasch, which is a design firm with offices in New York and Arizona. Another Look was involved in the process with fabrication consulting and then the fabrication of the final pieces.

Railing is an exploration of structural modular loops that are upholstered like handle-grips to become furniture. Each piece of furniture is a single loop made up of many circles. Here, the circle does not display the qualities it is most known for, but it is what a circle can be. It is not whole or complete but is instead growing into itself. It is a circle that refuses its own dimension and finitude, that struggles to be endless.

Design & Fabrication of temporary display to compliment the Be Kind Brand while also showcasing the merchandise.
Primary materials include steel and thread. Steel was used for the structure while the thread was of (4) four colors to match the (3) three primary logo colors as well as a light gray (as used for the ’d’ in the “be kind pledge”).
The overall shape is based on a hexagon, the shape of a honeycomb. There are (4) four openings (front, back and sides) that are 5’-0” wide. The hexagon shape is carried through the panels by displaying the shape with color thread. Lastly, we added cut, steel panels on each side with the words “be kind people project” to be used as signage on the exterior and magnet and bumper sticker displays for the interior.
We were given a tight schedule of 1-1/2 weeks total for both the design and building of this project. This timeframe limited the amount of colored hexagons realized for the final piece.

This temporary display is both functional and transparent as it supported the merchandise store for the Full Circle 2019 event by drawing people in visually while still creating separation in a full lobby.

Building mentor for graduate architecture students thesis projects. Advising and assisting in student designed shelters with building techniques, construction and fabrication.

This is a custom conference table for the golf agency, Pro Sports Management. The size measures 12'-0" long by 4'-0" wide.

With pro golf being the focus of Pro Sports Management, golf is the inspiration.
As a golfer carries out his work on the golf course, so the conference table is viewed as the work zone in the office. The relationship of the different grass color and textures of a golf course is characterized as a subtle gradient across the wood of the table. Further looking at a course’s variations: much in the way a water feature or sand pit would provide separation on the golf course, the table top is divided by two metal bands, which run the length of the table. These bands serve both structural purposes as well as aesthetically by taking on the conical section of a golf club shaft, being shown in the wood as largest in the middle of the table and thinnest at the edges. At the base of the bands, a slight bow resembles the swing of putting, calculated and precise, just as the work that will be accomplished around this table.
To keep with the style of the existing furniture of the office, wood and steel are utilized for the industrial modern look, and furthermore, the legs are slightly tapered to establish a mid-century appeal.

A set of two custom, removable steel planters were added to house succulents and provide further interest to the piece as a whole.

When you are a fan of games, but have limited space to store those multiple day game functions, the dining/game table is the logical solution. This table was made specifically for my brother, who would self identify as a "game lover".

A minimalist design that is highlighted by a single aluminum band. The wood acts as the exterior shell, but when cut away, uncovers a mirrored aluminum.

Concept

An icon, in it’s simplest definition, can be viewed as a representation of what we know something to be.

This offering box is built of materials that have been altered from their original state: metal i-beam - from aluminum, and lumber - from a tree. The minimalist display of these two materials, in their most recognizable shapes, is meant to remind us of the altered state we have become through sin, and the aspiration we should have to seek our original intention of living as reflections of God, carrying the attributes that He so lovingly gives. Furthermore, a cross icon is cut from the i-beam to visually connect the wood sides and to represent the only thing (Jesus) that could bind us to God after the division sin brings.

New City Church requested three offering boxes for there new location in downtown Phoenix. With an existing style that pushed more of a reclaimed look with modern/industrial accents, complimentary offering boxes were needed to fit in with the interior design.

Going along with the mission of New City, the boxes represent the church impacting the various intersections that make up a city. The majority of the box is made of dark stained pine to match the existing interior, representing the different parts of the city, with a single section stained with a hue of green, to highlight growth and renewal. The paths of the city will be displayed as steel flat bar, creating a deep contrast as it is depressed in the wood. The New City logo has been mapped to the boxes at an angle to provide an abstract view of the logo that will not be fully apparent at full glance. This mapping creates unique and different sides on all surfaces, allowing for a different look depending on how the boxes are oriented, which allows for unity in design and also the feel of 3 individual offering boxes. The logo of New City was added to the side of the envelope holder to provide a piece of identity.

Redemption Church of Tempe requested two offering boxes, one for either side of the entrance. Requirements included: a modern/industrial look and the use of steel and wood to match the existing interior.
The cross serves as the forefront of the design.  Comprised of a vertical and a horizontal steel band, the metal cross becomes the functional part of this piece. The horizontal band rests slightly proud of the vertical band to provide room for envelopes, pens and info cards. The vertical band wraps around three sides of the box to give form as well as an offering opening, centered on top.

The church logo was cut from steel and positioned on the side so as to not take away from the overall look, but still to give identity to the pieces. Keeping with a minimalist look, an oil rubbed oak is the framework of this offering box. Solid and light in color, the use of this wood was brought in to create a noticable contrast with the metal while still acting as an enduring piece.

Requirements included: a modern/industrial look and the use of steel and wood to match the existing interior. Commissioned after seeing Redemption Tempe's offering boxes, the original design was greatly appreciated and requested. The option of fabricating with the inverse in materials to the original Redemption Tempe boxes was given and Redemption Alhambra jumped on the idea of carrying the original design in a new way.

Concept:
Inspiration came from Galatians 2:20 - I have been crucified with Christ: and no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

With the attention being on the cross, the wood box remains simple, providing a contrast with the jagged cross. Being made of various sized steel flat bar, the pieces are depressed in the wood at different heights. The irregular cross is to convey a sense of unease as it resembles both the gruesome path Jesus had in dying for us and the narrow and trying path we are told will be for Christians.

Attributes: suspended drink rack

Inspiration comes from the necessity to have booze on a ship and how a bar would be able to keep drinks level on a wave teetering ride. The 'Wild' comes from the messy rope design, showing the character of a ship baker's artistry. The use of ocean drifted wood and rope are used to create the suspension bar top. Metal flat stakes, found in the ship's cabin, punch through the wood to give the bar stability. In addition, bulk nails are added to hang glassware.

A series of (3) solid wood lockers. The Maple hard wood was chosen for it's durability and clean look. The lockers were made for a private school. Open lockers were a priority for the school to reduce clutter and hiding of prohibited items. To establish a numbering system, an engraved tally system was established to subtly display while still giving each shelf an identity.

A modern deck fitted within the confines of a small backyard. This steel and wood deck serves as a sculptural piece within the grass as it also allows for a comfortable sitting space, overlooking a green belt on the opposite side of the wall.
